B. Yeats, “Second Coming”
A day in, day out casual acquaintance with the news and snippets of social media provide me a concise view of how the world thinks. And for a while, Plato’s Allegory of the Cave comes to mind after reading comments section, without knowing the particulars of the ‘why’ and ‘how’ this story is relevant. This exhibition, allowed me to stage a visual allegory reacting and referencing to Plato’s story; and providing an attempt to relate it to current affairs. In trying to capture this idea, it drew me back to some personal history being raised in a Catholic community, down to histories’ of known figures from different cultures. There is no intent to preach, satirize or condemn any popular view about any specific social issue; rather the visual context clues left in every piece are mere devices in the hopes of starting a philosophical inquiry. Let this serve as a love letter to our critical thinking.
